A Final Meeting

It is characteristic of the nature of their fieldwork that Kaberry and Chilver should seek to corroborate the findings from their earlier visits to the chiefdom. On this occasion they have come to check things with the Fon and opportunity is taken of his late arrival to question Fon Munggong who happens to be on the scene. In this brief interchange we see rehearsed in miniature virtually the entire fieldwork agenda. Fon Munggong is questioned about traditions of settlement, language, king lists, local organisation, societies, ritual, etc. Later the actual exercise of double checking previously recorded information with the Fon of Bum is undertaken before the anthropologists are presented with magnificent gifts immediately prior to their departure.

{short description of image} Just how magnificent is the gift of the leopard-skin and why?
