GALLERY 1.
These pictures illustrate scenes from the dioramas in Gallery 1 which was the last gallery to be built, being opened in 1947. The dioramas in this gallery are considered the museums finest, and as some of the animal skins were in storage for 40 years before being mounted show testamount to both the original skinning and preservation techniques in the field, as well as the mounting skills of taxidermist Rowland Ward. It has been suggested that as the animals are so well preserved and mounted many visitors believe that the animals must have been recently collected.
