The basic rhythmic pattern of the domba initiation dance. 1a, 1b and 1c are three alternative rhythms for the alto (murumba) drums, of which 1a is the easiest, and 1c the most difficult, to play steadily: two or three of these drums are played with the hands. 2 and 3 are the rhythms of the tenor (thungwa) and bass (ngoma) drums, respectively: these are played with a stick, and the tenor gives the basic beat.
