SPECIAL MILAYO OF THE RAIN-MAKING CLAN

The Mbedzi clan are noted rain-makers, and so they have special milayo for the court-yards at Mianzwi and Ha Tshikambe.

when the courtyard is closed:
Swiswi

32
Yo vulwa
when it is open:
Lupenyo lu tshi khou penya lwa mvula

33

which is the staff of Luvhimbi. (See Nos. 93 and 94.)
35
Hafha hayani: wa ha Tshisinavhute
there at home, a homestead at Tshisinavhute's [i.e. at Mianzwi]:

the source of [Lake] Fundudzi.

Three other milayo are often given for the courtyard:

36
Muri uyu u re vhukati
that tree over there in the middle:

a flower that grows in a pool.
37
Ngei matungo hune vhathu vha mona hone
over there where the people go round in a circle:
Findi
the body of a pythom.
38
Ngei hune vha tshi mona vha sa swike
there where their circle does not reach:
Vhukando ha
