Social welfare etc
k<social welfare>
Beggars - usually young and deformed. One good-looking lad with a twisted wrist and lump
on his right arm. Not enough to be a nuisance.
Peasants noticeably different in dress - tight legging - trousers and cummerbund on men, baggy
trousers on women - vary from quite prosperous to bare-footed even in this snowy weather.
Plenty of manpower - hamals; 2 or 3 selling tickets at Kzlay; often 2 on a bus as well;
domestic servants easy to get.
?? Beggars have regular beats; children work in groups for a master or mistress; a paying
profession. ( Corders 22/4)
