land in 1950-52 seemed to assume that the vendor had the right to give the money back and take back his land. Moroever, when pieces of paper were used to
write down transactions, they frequently got lost; people did not normally go to formal lawyers, and had not done in the recent past . I failed adequately to
check up on this in my later field work; Mehmet Arikan did do some work on it in 1985- 6}
