plough mera. Officially, this land belongs to the state, but in fact , it can be done. Only 20 years ago the Gezici retmen {gl : travelling teacher} came to
the village, but now a stranger could not come in and get land.
The effect on the village is for wealth, up to a point; to depend on numbers of teams of oxen and the area a man can plough, not on what he acquires, since
acquisition is still easy cf. 176.
