Page: 151/168-9
Date: 3. 6. 51.
Location: Sleymanli
Note:

3/6 Mill at Sleymanli - idea mooted in winter, they got straight in with it -
Economics - Installation 35,000TL
Building 5,000TL
Motor 15,000TL (Rustan diesel)
Installing Fees 400TL
The mills, bedding, driving mechanism etc.
Running cost - usta - 150-250TL a month.
Fuel - 4 kilos of diesel fuel = roughly 70k per hour
Capacity 80 batman per hour (2 mills together)
mill takes 5% e.g. 4 batman per hour - roughly 2 TL per batman

{cont, p.168} i.e. gross profit (less fuel) if run 16 hours per day - 120TL per day, or say 3,250TL a month, i.e. 3,000TL a month clear between 9 shares. For
this they work in shifts of 3 for five days at a time. N.B. only 8 months of the year.
Voluntary combination - one specially trusted man given job of dividing spoils (i(0270Bilal))
Kadir claimed to have paid off but 300TL this year
N.B. Sleymanli contained the necessary capital (all but 2 shares) even in this bleak year!
{gl: I think I remember that later it turned out there was Kayseri capital as well}
Kadir - Technical difficulties - unwillingness to hire an usta - want to learn themselves, some disagreement about it. (Even 1 usta is no guarantee) - also
cooling problem, usta said he was going in a month, was receiving no pay, and that he would be difficult to replace - all this denied by various members of the
group.
N.B. Presumably the traditional 5% is fair for water and wind mills - showing enormous advantages of machinery.
People pleased - "we shan't have to go far for our mill now" - previously had to go to Tomarza.

Kadir - in habit (previously) of buying cattle - about 30 - shifting by truck load (200TL - no fare)
to Istanbul and selling at slight profit - claims margin was small, sometimes made none. Must have had capital for this game. {added later} (No -
credit 20/9/60)
