Literacy and Level of Education
i(5172 {Aye} Ane Ik), 2nd. wife of i(0155 Ibrahim Ik), is Tomarzal. Had 5 yrs. in school and can read and write. Attempting to tell time fr. my watch.
Obviously more nous than most of the village women - e.g. quite intelligent comments re the election and the 2 parties; some knowledge of geography - that
England lay across the ocean and that there are other countries in the world besides Turkey; that the British Isles are very populated, and a lot of its people
live in cities. Interesting that she seems quite content with living in the village - no wish to move to the city which she despises.
