Impact of State on Village Structure
Kepez: has a salk evi, with a : shhat memuru. But the Kepez women don't seem to think much of the official. He only visits the village occasionally, imi -
staying much more in his own village of Efkeri. He does not bother about women and children when they are sick, and anyhow, they said, how can a man look after
babies? He doesn't know and he doesn't care. I had the unusual business soon after my arrival of being asked for medicines and to look at sick babies - they
wld. not believe that I cld. not help. I suspect that if it was a married woman nurse or something of that sort in the village the women might have much more
confidence.
