Nize. (see 2. p. 29). Stone houses: the richer are built to a pattern thus: door off street leading into open courtyard - with stables, store rooms off, etc. -
steps lead up to family living room opening off on either side from a porch. Porch leads to balconies at front and back of houses - balcony at front
gen{erally} overlooks the street and in several cases has boxes of flowers.
House of English master - stands well back from street and is approached by long shady passage. Gate leads into small but v. pleasant courtyard, with climbing
flowers, etc. - an 'ev' - kitchen opens off this courtyard on the ground level, + store rooms and an 'oda', used by the school teacher as his private room.
This room is not of usual 'oda' pattern: 4 steps lead up to raised part on which are bed, sedir, table and chair for his studying. Boxes, bedding in a cupboard
at the back. Pots and pans are stored on shelves at the bottom. Store room opens off this room. Steps from courtyard lead up to another 'oda', used for
sleeping.
