evlik. v. small village, built up sides of steep cleft in the escarpment. Built into rock - v. hot. Sun beats off rock onto the village houses. Harman up on
plateau above the village - windy and cool up there. About 50 houses, several of which are caves hollowed out of the hillside. Only about 26 buildings visible
as you approach on the road. 1 small school house, 1 cami {mosque}. Approach to village unprepossessing. Very few balar or trees to be seen - hardly any balar
around the village. No water-wells. Large patch of grassland and some veg. plots lie directly in front of the village - village has a somewhat desolate,
forlorn air. No air of prosperity about it, tho' several well-built, prosperous houses are to be seen.
Emin Aa's remark: mdr never comes here, nor the karakol nor gendarme. Muhtar has perhaps 2 official visitors a year.
