Ard. Small, compact village in sharp valley forming a cleft in the escarpment. Houses at foot of slopes - balar {vineyards} extend higher up and most of their
fields on the higher plateau. Village protected in winter, v. hot in summer. Only kuyu (well) water. Poplars, a few willows, and 'balar' reaching right up to
the village give it a more tree-ed appearance than Sak.. From the hill above, the setting of the village is lovely, surrounded by its vineyards, & nestling in
the valley, with steep slopes around and Erciyes in the background. About 60 odd houses. Quite large village school building - 1 classroom, 1 ilik {workroom}
- 5 classes as there is now an retmen ( Ardl). Girls now attend school. Village appears to be roughly same econ. standard as Sakaltutan. No large 'harman' -
threshing and winnowing being carried on in various small plots around the houses - with household groups working near their own 'ev'. Harvest not as far on as
in Sakaltutan.
