Village - External.

Literacy, Level of Education, etc.

i(Fuad Uok)'s household - gelin { SW} ( Kayserili), i(Hakk Uok)'s daughter i(Nezaket Uok) and gelin present, plus Fuad's wife. None had been to school.
Fatime, Fuad's gelin, said her younger sister was going and that she wanted her own daughter to go when of age. Expressed approval of girls being educated.
Others questioned me about my education, interested, said if only they could read and write they might have been able to learn another language - could I have
learnt Turkish if I couldn't read or write?

(n.b. - unlike many village women, these girls realised that their language was foreign to me, and that I'd had to learn it. Usual sort of question is - "why
don't you speak like we do, why don't you understand, why do you speak differently to your husband?)
