Houses and House Interiors.
Visited i(Rifat Soylar)'s house (top end of village). A recently built house, like i(Sevfk zsoy)'s, standing well out from the village on the Ekrek road.
House and havlu surrounded by wall, making it an independent unit, isolated from other houses. Large, square havlu, store house on left, house building all
along one side. Household has its own well, standing in the havlu, worked by long pole and chain. Door into house, up 3 steps, leads into central room, in
which at one side, is an ocak for quick cooking at Ramazan. Water, etc. kept here. Four roms open off - 2 odas, the ev, and a large store room with ambarlar{
storage chests for grain}, etc. {drawn plan included here}. Misafr odas, at present containing grain, and the bulk of the ev taken up with grain also. Daughter
was lying in this room on the sedir.
A door and steps lead out of further side of havlu, past a bahe {garden}they are making, to a door leading underground. A large wide stable
{cont. p 28}
has been built cave fashion, with large troughs hollowed out of the rock on each side to make feeding troughs for the animals. Horses (2), oxen and cows live
in this large stable, door at end leads to samanlk {chopped straw store}. Another door on left leads to further stable, in which sheep kept. General
appearance of house is one of comfort and plenty of space and light by village standards.
