Carpets
"her ev hali dokuyor" {every house weaves carpets}
Same story - tccar provides the wherewithal, and the market, girls work all day.
Various estimates from 300TL to 600TL a month for girl.
{9 - 18 : 1 = 33TL} {see below}
I went to see one loom in a {poorish} household. Woman very optimistic 12 x 60 = 7,200 TL p.a. I objected, - 10 months a year = 5,000 TL [= Beki's income]
{Added} [This far too much - 6 months at most: PS 85]
They do sit and work all day. Girl can learn in a couple of weeks (if she is intelligent). Little girls begin early and learn from elder sisters. Wives also
do it, but where 3 girls are working together on a large carpet @ 1 TL per thread (sira), they seem to work all day consistently.
Someone said "hal dokumas ky kalkndrd" {carpet weaving has raised (developed) the village}
Faruk Bey {vlg. born teacher, what is his surname? I visited him in Kayseri with Emine?} - 4 girls making a carpet for the house - they'd already made one.
Mehmet - 2 daughters made 1,700 TL (he gave exact figures to nearest TL) in 40 days - 20 a day each (c. 60p.). {just over 600TL a month}
