About10 years or less ago, they began making wells - fairly large round holes; these depend on underground flow of water above bed - soil shallow. Quickly exhausted - a day or two to refill. but it does make possible irrigation. Land is mildly terraced.
They grow wheat, but a variety of veg. - e.g. seed onions (very lucrative) and apples.
An ebbe from Konya introduced cherries and some other things.
Wheat: Anthony said - unique variety; in conversation, they said one of the villagers had been successful with some part of his land, and had himself isolated and retained the seed, until the whole village was able to use it. They found it very good for their soil and conditions.
They have three tractors and threshing machines.
So - considerable openness to new ideas, and considerable increase in production. No real careful evaluation, but they obviously know.
Lots of horses - for ploughing, and transport.
They also have land on the irrigated plain. They can crop twice a year with water, three times on the plain.
Animals
Well over 5,000 sheep, and goats and plenty of cows. Cows are yerli, because at the end of the summer they have a water shortage and only locals can survive.
They divide milk between lower vlg. (Haykiru) and another village with a cheese factory.
