i(1730 Sait's) story. I was trying to explain what I am doing. I triggered i(1730 Sait.) A long story in Turkish. Roughly:
A man (A) had a son (S). S. for fun punctured a leather water sock of a water seller (WS). WS complained to the Watch (W) and they to the man A. A was very
upset with his bad son. How could he have such a bad son? He sent for his wife, and said could she remember anything special about his birth. No, she said;
then she said well, yes. When she was pregnant she had visited neighbours and when alone in a room, she had pricked a 'nar' (pomegranate) with a pin, and
sucked some juice, secretly.
So A sent his wife to confess to the neighbours, who said "Helal olsun" {gl : "may it be your lawful right and property"}. A. then went to see WS and told
him about this and WS said "Helal olsun". After that, the son was a good son and caused no more trouble.
Which shows, said i(1730 Sait), that good parents do not have bad children without a special reason.
He was responding to my attempts to say industrialisation brings about changes in customs. He was dead serious. He teaches children.
