Line 104 is both a literal piece of self-praise and a metaphorical allusion to the fact that a master sings for his supper: he hunts meat with his voice, and he complains that his employer is not rewarding him well.

Tshilamba-phele = the omasum or third stomach of ruminants, so called because the hyena (phele) will not eat it. This line occurs in the children's song, "The little frog of Musingadi" (Blacking 1967b:38 [line 7] and 40 [note 3]).
