Catasto Onciario Preliminary Acts
Population census data
Each property owner had to give details about family, property
and debts. These were initially recorded in the atti preliminari for the cadaster. On the first page of Lionardo Popoli's information
the third person is used to refer to his family relationships.
This section was compiled by an official committee. The second
page is written in the first person, though not by Lionardo himself
as he signs with a cross being unable to write.
The property section is much more detailed than the cadaster entry, and reflects information
given by the owner before selection for the purposes of the official
register. The family data has a cross-reference to the 1752 State of Souls register, a copy of which is retained with the cadastral archive and seems
to have been used in the compilation.
At the end of this page there are links to other records relating
to this family, one of which is the Catasto Onciario itself.
The said Lionardo is aged fifty six years as in the State of Souls

Notes
- 1 bracciale
- labourer, literally one who works with the arms. The same term
is used for both agricultural and urban (e.g. building) workers.
- 2 married (casato)
- literally housed, a term used for to mean married.
The family consists of the parents, two married sons, their wives
and young children, plus an unmarried brother. The relationship
between people and houses is not given. Lionardo provides details
of his own house in the property section.
